Scout Stave

In the introduction to the story “The Quiet Village” by David McDaniel, in Jerry Pournelle’s There Will Be War Volume 1, Jerry mentions that Lord Baden Powell initially created the Scouts as a kind of military auxiliary, training young boys in the basics of woodcraft. While the Scouts have drifted from this purpose, Eagle Scouts do still get the option to come in at E-3 after completing Basic training.
